Akita Health

If you or your family are considering buying an Akita or having one, it is important to know about the Akita's Health. You can do this by asking any Akita breeder or by reading this e-web-book.

Ill give you a some information about Akitas and how to get a healthy Akita which are expected to live anywhere from ten to twelve years. They are large and very strong dogs. A male Akita could grow to about 125 pounds and a females could grow up to about 100 pounds.

Your Akita's Nutrition is also very important, so, when your Akita is growing up give it a diet of high quality dry foods. It should also receive plenty of food once they are adults and should be fed once or twice daily.

Akitas always need plenty of exercise so when they are puppies teach them to walk on a leash and help them socialize with people and other dogs. They love a large fenced in yard where they can safely run around. I suggest you let it outside at least once a day with you and just play with it because it needs its exercise.

All dogs are prone to inherent genetic disorders so that may show up sometime during your pet's life. Akitas have several specific disorders that the breed may pass on. It is always good to know what the diseases may be before you bring your new Akita home. You can also help your Akita even more by being aware of its problems.

Akitas sometimes get sensitive to many types of drugs, especially anesthesia drugs. If your veterinarian is not aware of these problems you should tell them about this situation before your dog undergoes any medical procedures. Another common problem with them is autoimmune hypothyroidism.

This thyroid problem, may causes symptoms that may cause obesity and lethargy or hyperactivity and emaciation in your dog. This disease can be sudden and may cause it to have seizures or even be aggressive. The thyroid controls many functions of its body including the function of its immune system. If the thyroid causes immune problems the dog can be vulnerable to many diseases.

Always keep your Akita immunized to diseases because this will help you prevent them from catching some bad diseases. Brush your Akita's coat as much as you can because this helps you control shedding and assists in keeping the skin free from problems. Akitas are very clean dogs and because of their unique two-layer fur it doesn't need to be bathed very often. Just give it a bath after it has been shedding to help you remove the excess hair.

When it comes to your Akita's Health it is very important that you know when it is sick or is showing signs of being sick, if this happens immediately take it to the veterinarian because it could be a thyroid problem. You should frequently check every so often, even if the dog is showing no outward signs. As all dogs age, new problems or diseases may evelope.

These can include vision problems and hip problems. If it does have a problem and it needs medicines check if it is allergic to it any because in some cases the medication can create new and more serious health issues. Most importantly, learn to understand your Akita's normal behavior and eating patterns. Then you will be able to know immediately when there is a problem so that it can be dealt with.
